Most of the time
I’m carrying a Leica M6, with a variety of
primes: 35/f2.8 Summicron asph., 90/2.8 Elmarit, and Voigtlander Cosina 21/4. Ilford HP5+ is my
film of choice, due to its versatility and forgivingly wide latitude.
For medium format,
I use a Mamiya 7II with 65 and 150mm primes. Most of my MF work is reserved for bright
sunny days, something there can be a shortage of here in SF. My film of choice is Fuji Neopan
Acros for b+w, and Velvia 100 or 100F for color.
I develop my own b+w, usually in HC110.
Occasionally I’ll use PMK, typically for a roll of Acros that I want to develop for maximum highlight
separation. For color reversal
development, I go to Light Waves (http://www.lightwavesimaging.com/)
here in SF.
I scan some of my negatives
with a Nikon 9000 (Coolscan IV for 35mm) using VueScan, at 4000dpi, 16-bit grayscale, multi-pass and do
some cleanup, levels and contrast adjustment in Photoshop. This yields excellent results for both web
publication and prints up to 8x10 or so, occasionally 11x14 for some MF.
For printing up to
13x19, I use an Epson 2200 and Imageprint v6.
